Laptop Battery Life
Most laptop batteries should run a laptop for 1.5 – 3 hours depends on processes are running on the laptop. The less tasks you are performing the more time you will get out of the battery. I am referring to low end laptops here like $400 – $900 or so.
Most laptop manufacturers will brag about battery life if it lasts more than 5 hours. But this is usually part of expensive laptop ($1500+). You should take this with a grain of salt. There’s always a little star next to the 5 or 7 hours which usually refers to the way the battery was tested and what tasks were being performed during testing.
From experience, you will expect around half of that if you are a heavy user like myself. I have a laptop that was advertised with 7 hours battery life. New out of the box was lasting around 4 hours, almost 4 years later, I still get around 2.5 – 3 hours. Having said that I am the type of use that my laptop is plugged into the charger around 20 hours a day (I keep it plugged in at night to backup), so I am very happy with what I am getting now.
Again as I always say, you get what you pay for.
